Administration
The Company is run by a Board of directors on Earth. This controls a complicated heirachy of departments that control separate interests of the company. Being an Administrator in the Company requires a high level of return but is very financially rewarding.
Armed Forces
The Colonial Marines, United Armed Forces, and Civilian Police are not under the direct control of Waylan Yutani, but it does have a significant draw on their resources. If the Company requests armed attendance at one of it's intrests you can be assured they will get it.
Breeding
This is one of the major areas of trade that is not controled by the company. While it does have huge farms for some diverse lifeforms there are also thousands of independant breeders who are bought out as soon as their stock becomes impressive enough.
Colonization
All access to colony worlds is controlled by Waylan Yutani, as they are the primary financier to exploration and salvage missions. As a result they have first claim on any valuable discoveries and goods.
Communication
Relay becons and long range emergency transmitters are provided by the company, but their upkeep is expensive and the use of them is reserved for extreme situations. Failure to adhere to strict code of practices may result in significant forfieture of monies.
Industrial Espionage
To ensure the Company continues to be the primary strength in business a core of highly trained agents are used to gather information, both on opposition companies and on their own far flung interests. They are rare though and used only when there is no other reliable way of gathering the required information.
Civil Service
The large body of people who do the work in Waylan Yutani; clerks, typists, sanitation engineers. They may have very little actual power or position within the company, or they may be the civil servants who actually carry out the dictates of the Board.
Genral Menial Labour
There are ways of getting work when the company does not want you, for example they do not control most of the space docks and thee is always work for people who can lift and carry, or dig holes.
Medicine
Most hospitals have become privatised, but there are still many Public hospitals. Most of these are supported by large quantities of Waylan Yutani money, which in tern is written of their taxes and PR accounts.
Organised Religion
This is the most inffluential Non-Company institution around. Since it tends to be a non-profit organisation it has not come in direct conflict with the company, but in terms of political sway it is the strongest competitor.
Penal Institutions
With the privatization of prisons Wyalan Yutani saw an opportunity for inexpensive untrained labour. They have a number of facilities like Fiorina "Fury" 131 where the convicts are set to production for their hard labour term.
Pilot Licensing
Almost all flying jobs are contorlled by Waylan Yutani or the Armed Forces. When Ripley had her Company License supended she could find no substantial work in her field.
Science
Most scientific research is funded by the Company to ensure fiorst claim on any financial posibilities. They tend to allow a great deal of freedom in the areas of research, but have been known to "vanish" scientists who stray into field the Compnay does not want explored.
Special Forces
Waylan Yutani supports it's own standing army of highly trained and highly equiped Malittia. These individuals may be considered more dangerous than the Colonial Marines, but far more rare.
Synthetics
Waylan Yutani controls the supply of all Synthetics, even to the Military, through subcontracts to other production houses. Thsi is so that if problems do occur blame and the contract can be shifted without direct damage to Waylan Yutani's reputation.
Trade and Industry
Waylan Yutani and it's affiliates are the backbone of all trade and industry. If you wish to do business in today's world you must acnowedge them in some fashion. This does not mean that there are not small time independants capable of surviving by never being more than the local corner store, or some small time Buccaneers keen to manage a near illegal competition of Black Market goods. However, trade with these parties is usually more trouble than it is worth in the long run.
