Bloody Captain – Scene 6
by HoD Ro' Matlh & Sogh Marla Varquis
Marla was in the mess hall. With HoS on duty it was one of the few chances she got to sneak a meal from the replicator that her human side could enjoy. She was alone at the moment but when she was half finished she heard Ro’ enter the mess.
As he walked over Marla detected the pungent fumes of alcohol from him. He growled at her, “Tell rIQ. YItI’qa’ nochvetlh QalwI’ nIHpu’ ghoD Matlh yISamlaH.” [Tell is injured. You must fix the sensors so they can find me the corrupt filth who have been smuggling Matlh goods.]
Marla tried her best to plug her nose from the stench. By now she should be used to it, but she wasn't. She decided to respond in English, "No, I don't know how to do that." She turned back to her meal.
With her back turned she didn't even see the attack coming. First thing she knew a hand gripped the back of her head and slammed her face into her food. The blow itself was softened somewhat but the shock was very real.
Marla looked at Ro' with surprise then quickly jumped up, and pulled out her knife to defend herself. "What was that for?"
Ro' bellowed, "I gave you an order, you useless half caste! And now you dare pull your knife on me?"
He swung a punch that lifted Marla across the table and dropped her next to HoS cooking stove.
Marla jumped up. "I told you I can't do it. I do not know how. As for the knife, it is instinct for me to pull it when someone tries to fight me. I don't know what to do. You will just have to find another Engineer or wait until Tell is better." She started to cautiously head back to the door.
Ro' strode towards her. She noticed that he was keeping his right hand bunched tight and there was blood on it. This was not the first fight he had been in today. She ducked a clumsy left hook but was not ready for a leg sweep that landed her on her back.
Ro' stepped back waiting for her to rise again, "You are not part of House Matlh. You are not even a real Klingon. I know you share with the Human because you feel closer to her, and her shower than to a real warrior. You are attacked and you back away making appologies like the cowards of the Federation."
At this statement Marla got angry, and her eyes began to fill with tears. She quickly jumped up again. "True I am not a real Klingon, and only a half-breed, but I was raised by a full Klingon, and never by my Human mother." She picked up one of the pots on the stove, and threw the contents of the pot at Ro'.
Ro' bellowed as teh hot juices ran inside his armour scalding him.
"You are drunk, and are only trying to insult me while under the affects of it. Try insutling me again when you are sober, and then I might believe you." She took the pot in her hand and hit him in the arm.
The pot, though hot, rang of his armoured elbow. Ro' rolled with the blow and came up with a new weapon in his hand; the bench. Marla tried in vain to block the metal frame but ther ewas too much weight to the swing and she was hurled again.
Ro' stood poised but marla did not rise. Eventually he threw the seat aside. If his Engineers and Tactical officers had failed him then he must turn to science. Jared would know how to make the sensors work.
