Tour of Larder
Location: Deck 1
The Larder, or Live Food Storage, consists of a number of pens and cages containing Bregit, Targ, Gargh and other food which is best eaten when freshly butchered or live. It is the Quartermaster’s responsibility to see that this is fully stocked and supplies for the animals is sufficient as well so the crew do not have to rely on stale ration packs.
The animals are butchered here, but prepared in the galley. As you can imagine, a room full of frightened animals and decaying offal in an enclosed space can be quite overpowering. As such it is put at the furthest point from the Bridge and Mess, which just goes to show that Klingons do have a sense of smell.
A rare but effective means of discipline on a B’rel is to reroute the life support ducts to the hold and force a rebellious crew member to sleep there for the duration.
