On The Job Training – Getting Comfortable
by HoD Ro' Matlh & Soghla' Terri (Tell) Hope & Soghla' Marie St. Helene
Beds. REAL beds, with sheets and pillows and mattresses. And a sonic shower! There was a moment there where the women were tempted just to weep openly in joy, but that would not befit their station.
They had each been given their own room in the VIP section; a room larger than the FHew Mess hall. There were replicators that provided the food you ordered at a temperature you wanted. And everything smelled of... well the slightly ionized smell of Federation clean.
Tell ran her hands along clean lines, smooth under her fingertips, not a scratch on the surfaces unlike the Fhew. Tell remembered another ship in the past, she had been tempted then. She took another sip of her coffee smoother than the brew she made on the Fhew but still with the same edge. Later, on her own, she intended to spend a long time in the shower getting the oil out of her pores. Small thing, she knew, but it was something to look forward to.
The women had been left to their own devices until the mission briefing. Now, however, they donned their newly replicated Klingon battle armour/uniform and reported to the briefing room behind the bridge. That typically open gap across the chest of Tell’s uniform made Marie’s heart race. It was all she could do to keep tearing her eyes away before she was up on a sexual harassment charge.
Commander Davis led the briefing.
"The IKC FHew is engaged on a routine patrol along the Klingon border. We have been tasked with finding and eliminating them. Their weapons and ours have been programmed to create simulated damage only. Systems will automatically reduce their performance or shut down. In fact, we have managed to link in the IDF so the ship will simulate some shaking at the appropriate moments. Officers Hope and St Helene are here as observers only, to make sure we follow the engagement rules. I will hand over to Acting Ensign Delaine for a tactical briefing."
The young security recruit stepped up and began immediately, "Initially the target will not be flying cloaked, but we must expect that to be an early strategy. Because of this, we are going to sacrifice an initial damaging strike for a little toy that Engineering has developed. It will plant a telemetry signal that will allow us to track the ship while it is cloaked. This is when they are at their most vulnerable. Records show that the Type D12 warbird is unable to operate shields and cloak simultaneously. Once the tracker is planted we can loose a volley of torpedoes at their cloaked ship."
"If we are successful, this should significantly hamper their performance. However, they have an Alpha Squad Pilot, and the Captain has three confirmed Galaxy kills to his name, so do not expect it to go by the book. He will have his own surprises."
"Once our initial ploy is begun, the trick will be to keep him in sight. If we can force him into a stand up battle we have him out gunned. If we can stay behind him we severely limit his weapon use."
Acting Ensign Masters raised his hand, "Their ship is more maneuverable and their Pilot is Alpha squad. How exactly are we to stay behind them?"
"I only said, 'if we could ...' I don't actually expect that to happen."
Davis took the podium again, "Any questions from our observers before we begin?"
Marie looked at Tell, making sure to keep her eyes fixed on her friend’s face. “I have none,” she said.
"Me neither," Tell added.
"We should reach the FHew in 30 minutes. Yellow alert. Battle stations!"
A small smirk appeared at the corners of Tells mouth. She was going to enjoy this.
