Ro' had ordered a complete diagnostic of the Computer system, but it was proving to be more difficult than Jared expected. Jeeves, the re-purposed Vetus Computer node was not accepting his authorization codes.

- I am unable to comply to your access request -

Jared put his head in his hands. Working with Jeeves was supposed to make things easier. "Diagnostic. Why can't you accept the codes?"

- Your identity cannot be confirmed -

Jared sat up and frowned. He sang a short ditty in his head, and re entered the password, checking he had got it right. "Confirm Password integrity."

- Your code was correct -

Jared relaxed and tried to pull up this diagnostic information again. He was still locked out. Jeeves, what is going on?"

-Your identity cannot be confirmed -

Jared shook his head, "All right. Master password KELPEC-39. Let me in through the root access."

- Unable to comply. Further unauthorized root access attempts will result in reduction of privileges -

Jared had a cold feeling steal over him. He knew the code he was giving was correct. "Repeat Master password override KELPEC-39."

- Privileges revoked -

There was a snap as the sealed air vents opened and a green mist flowed out into the room. Jared immediately began to choke.

- Living is a privilege. It has been revoked. -

Ro' stepped into the room with his respirator in place, but Jarvis had already extracted the gas again before he got there. Ro' glanced around the room.

"No body," he said, his voice muffled by the mask.

-He was able to override the door lock mechanism and escape-

"Despite the gas?" Ro' mused. "It seems your guess was right. How long will the fix take?"

-I have already begun the process. He is currently next to the Deuterium Feed port-

Jared thumbed the control on the disruptor, the nozzle pressed firmly to the feed line.

"That's quite far enough, HoD," he said towards a patch of apparently empty shadow.

Ro' took off the respirator, "Are you going to blow us up, TiQ?"

"I don't want to," Jared admitted, "but my options are limited. I noticed the ship had changed course and is headed to Starbase 23. You're not planning on attacking it, since you have damaged our weapon launcher and you no longer have enough crew to do more than dock."

"You killed all of the crew one by one, making use of what you personally knew about each of us. This was a personal attack, not a death and glory fight. Your very good, But I will tell you this HoD Ro'..."

Suddenly there was fire in Jared's eyes and the little man seemed to swell and snarl, "I will not die on this ship today at your hands."

There was a short beep.

-Process completed. I have control of the matrix-

Ro' relaxed, "End program."

There was a shimmer and Jared vanished, a small device dropping to the deck next to the discarded disruptor he had been holding. Ro' stepped forward and crushed the holo-emitter with his boot.
