Bugging Out – Does she dare ask.....
by Ne' Michelle "Mike" Young & HoD Ro' Matlh
Mike sat in sickbay. She knew she would have to speak to the Captain at some point, but she preferred that it was, perhaps, at least on her own terms and a place of her choosing, rather than a random room or corridor on the ship.
She pondered for a while about how to go about this. She knew where she wanted to speak with him, and she still wanted to complete her own medical database of the crew.
'I have to face up to it at some point, might as well be now.' Mike thought as she stood.
Mike buzzes the comm.
,'. Captain, I was wondering if I might have a word? ,'.
Ro' was in his room when the summons came. He had received word that the USS Oberon was in the area. He had known this ship in battle and learnt to fear it.
,'. You may have as may words as you want, Doctor. just leave some for the rest of the crew ,'.
,'. I shall endevour to ,'. Mike pauses. ,'. Actually, I was hoping you might consent to a quick medical examination. I'm trying to compile a database of my own, in case the crew gets sick or injured, so I have something to work from ,'.
There was a long pause, and Mike wondered if the Comms were down or Ro' was just ignoring her whee she suddenly heard him at the Infirmary door, "Base line data? Gives you a target to aim for with each crewman while augmenting your medical library with generalities. I approve. Use the Federation Tricorder though; the quantum resonance is far superior to anything we have on this ship."
While not deep, his level of medical understanding surprised Mike.
Mike stands there stunned for a moment. "Oh, right, well, that's the one I've been using on the others who have consented so far, which ain't many unfortunately."
"Do'wI'mo' jaq or, as you would say, Fortune favours the Bold," Ro' responded.
"I'll remember that one." Mike grabs her tricorder and proceeds to scan Ro'.
"I guess I'll have to threaten those who won't co-operate. HIchop did suggest poison or fighting. I'm not so much for poison, but fighting certainly would be interesting."
The scan does not take long.
"I'm done." Make says. "Cheers for being so...accommodating."
Ro' shook his head, "No. I have done this with my brother a dozen times. You want bloods and tissue samples. Do your job."
Mike reaches for the other tools she needs. "So far you're the only one who has let me take blood and tissue. HIchop was....accommodating but wasn't fond of much more than a scan. Though he did say he would get blood samples for me from those who would not co-operate."
Ro' chuckles, "I bet he did. Probably with that rotary cannon he is fitting on that Miletus battle armour."
Mike takes the blood and tissue samples, then places them onto the appropriate machines.
"Is there anything you want to discuss with me while you have me?"
Ro' shook his head but hesitated, "My brother was a doctor, a damn good one at that. Having someone around, doing tests and check ups... It reminds me of him."
Ro' left quietly, deep in reflection.
