Tell had just finished stripping down part of the engine housing and putting in new emteric bolts. Normally they wouldn't need changing for a few more months. But Tell so in tune with Ema Moyo, heard a slight change in her heart beat and had detected a crack in one of them and because of the Rust Buckets age it was better to replace all of them than just the one. So she was dirty and grimy but happy with the job she had done even though it had taken her most of the day.
When she entered her quarters she saw Marla lying on her bunk reading.
"Hey Marla what are you reading then" she asked
"The biography of Bonny and Clyde. I thought to myself that I should go rob a bank, but there were none on the ship for me to rob. so I am reading about bank robbers. If there were banks available though I do not think I would rob it, at least not without help. What have you been up to?"
"mmmmm" tell replied "Robbing a bank would be far easier then the bolts I had to change, one of these days I am going to get my self so wedged in to places that you are going to have to use a crow bar to get me out."
She had visions of seeing herself being flung across the engine room after being freed from the tightest of spaces. "
"Forget about the crowbar Marla, you would just pull me out with your little finger"
Marla put down her book, "What did you need me to do?"
"Nothing....but after I've had a shower and cut my hair again do you want to go and play some music?" asked Tell "I'm sick of my hair when it gets to long, it would be easier to shave it all off.. you couldn't cut it for me could you?"
Tell headed towards the shower.
Marla got up, set up a chair, and pulled out her knife. She sat there on her bed messing with her knife while waiting on Tell to come back.
Tell came out rubbing her hair dry and saw the knife in Marla's hand.
"No scissors then Marla?" Tell asked and she laughed evilishly "Do your worst Varquis"
"Well then have a seat." She waited until she sat down. "Do you really trust me with a knife behind your back?"
"Better behind my back than around my throat" replied Tell "Besides you'll only miss me" she added in a sing song voice
She smiled evilly, and laughed in the same manner. "Are you sure?"
"Go for it but make it.......spikey" asked Tell "I need a new look"
Marla grabbed her knife, and started working on the haircut. She decided that just cutting her hair was boring so she started talking, "So how are you doing today?" She didn't know why she asked this, but it just came out of her mouth.
"What" asked Tell but thought she would play along with the game what else had she to do "I'm well and yourself Marla"
Marla was surprised she actually answered the question, "I am fine I guess. So what are your plans for the week?"
"Well" Tell nearly burst out laughing as she saw chunks of her hair fall to the floor "I might pay a visit to the engine room it's always nice there this time of year and I hear that the weather is good all the year round. And yourself Marla what are your plans"
"I have none at the moment. I might just join you on your vacation. That is if you don't mind your hairdresser going on vacations with you."
"Of course not,you should never go any where with out ones hairdresser" said Tell in mock seriousness "Where shall we go, oh cloaked one"
"I thought you said you were going to visit the Engine room. Have you been drinking?"
"Not yet, but I could any minute now, where does a girl go to have fun round here" she asked "Besides the engine room?"
"I know a place, but I am not going to say it."
"Why is it a secret?" said Tell supprised
"No, it isn't, but... OK, I'll tell you." She leaned over to whisper in Tell's ear to make sure no one else heard it. "In Ro's room." She stood back up.
Tell burst out laughing and almost cried while Marla laughed so hard that she almost knocked her head on the top bunk.
"Have you nearly finished" she asked "How do I look?"
"Yeah, I finished, and it looks horrible. Take a look."
Tell took hold of the mirror and looked........................
