Resistance is Futile – A Pig of a job
by HoD Ro' Matlh & Sogh Germite Ephilom
It was late. There was only one bed in Medical and since the injured had all been dragged back to their own quarters the temptation was for Germite to tuck up and have a quick rest himself. Today had been exhausting. For some reason the Medbay seemed to be overstocked with stimulants, but he was beginning to suspect why.
It was quiet here now and Germite felt himself beginning to nod off at his station. He was woken when the Targ in the corner gave a sudden squeal. He glanced over but the creature seemed to be standing comfortably, leaning against the far wall.
He pulled up a monitor. This Targ had chewed on a Borg drone when the Fhew had been attacked a few months ago. The previous medic had held onto it as an experiment in crude Borg detection. If the nanites in it suddenly became active, they would know there were Borg close.
The monitor showed no unusual activity, so Germite switched it back off. He stood and stretched and decided it was time to get some actual sleep. He switched the lights of behind him.
If he had been more awake, he may have noticed the green glow behind him. He may have noticed how still the Targ was standing, He may even have found the fine filaments made by the nanites from the side of the Targ into the wall of the FHew and patching into the sensors.
Perhaps then someone would have noticed that the sensors were specifically being modified to ignore Borg signatures. Then in turn the Borg vessel would not have been able to approach the FHew undetected.
