New Blood – Report
by HoD Ro' Matlh & Ensign Jason Hawk
The Federation Embassy was almost ridiculously Un-Klingon. It was as if the designers had gone out of their way to produce a building which was everything Federation in one place, and no one stepping through it’s doors would be left in any doubt.
The walls shone and the air was pristine to the point of sterility after the cacophony of smells and sounds that had existed on the ship. Doors slid easily and almost silently, the pneumatic hiss paling in comparison to loud clangs and rusty hinges. Thick carpet deadened his footsteps, instead of the reassuring clang of the metal gratings on the FHew. Hawk found himself beginning to understand why the Klingons were so uncomfortable on Human ships. He kept looking over his shoulder. IT was too quiet here.
He was identified by the computer on his arrival and ushered by a junior adjutant to a private office with secure Comms access. It took only a few moments to get a message through to Prometheus command where Admiral Vloc Cann took the call.
The stoic Vulcan regarded the junior officer carefully, “Greetings, Ensign. I trust your short tour with the FHew has proved an efficient introduction. Undoubtedly your experiences will act as an invaluable guide to further Federation/Klingon interactions.”
Jason sat in front of the screen the Admiral was on. "Yes sir it was... enlightening to say the least...." Jason said as he thought back to his first few days aboard the FHew. "What news is there about the RRF? I don't get much news on the FHew...." Jason said wanting to know what if anything he missed.
"There are some very encouraging initial results," Vloc responded. "We have a number of ships including the new Achillies and the D'ama which are populated by both crews. Diplomatic ties with the Empire are strong thanks to the efforts of the DS12 staff as much as anything."
Vloc paused as something in Jason's report caught his eye. He stopped and re-read the passage before addressing the Ensign again, "You say here you were directly involved in a political dispute that changed the leadership of a major house within the Empire?"
"Yes sir I was." Jason said with a sense of dread starting to form in his stomach.
Vloc raised an eyebrow, "You, as a Starfleet officer, are not authorised to be involved in what is an obviously internal political matter. This is a serious breach of our agreement. I will need to read your report fully and consider if further action is to be taken. How long will you be on Qo'nos?"
"A week...." Jason said as the sense of dread grew even stronger.
"Then consider your self on temporary suspension. I will get back to you with our final decision before the week is out. Was there anything else, Ensign?"
"Yes sir...." 'Oh good just what I needed....' Jason thought to himself. "No sir, nothing else."
"You still have full access to the embassy obviously, but you will not be acting with Starfleet sanction. I trust the remainder of your stay will be informative and uneventful."
Vloc paused and seemed to consider, "I understand the Imperial Opera is staging QaQwI', QaQbe'wI' je moHwI' this week. I am given to understand it is a classic. It may help you to attend."
Jason nodded. "I'll think about it sir..."
"Vloc out." The screen went dead, leaving Jason with his own, very uncomfortable thoughts.
"It may help me to attend?! What the hell does that mean?" Jason snorted angrily. 'This is why I don't socialize... no matter what I do I seem to always piss someone off...' he thought to himself as he stormed out of the embassy and began walking with no specific destination.
