New Blood – The Fallen - Part 1
by Soghla' Terri (Tell) Hope & HoD Ro' Matlh
A weak and feeble moan escaped from underneath the bed covers. Then a delicate long fingered hand inched and crawled its way to the surface closely followed by another that forced the linen away from her head. The chief engineer of the IKC FHew pushed open the slits she had for eyes with her fingers and then tried to recall what had happened the night before. She wondered how on earth she had managed to get here but her alcohol soaked brain refused to cooperate.
Tell gingerly raised her head and regretted it straight away as the room began to swim before her eyes. She took in her surroundings and half expected to be back in her quarters onboard the ship. No such luck she thought as she lay back on the pillow. Ro' had locked her out of the Fhew and ordered her to take some leave. Leave! She didn't need leave she told herself she was fine as long as she could over see the damned repairs on the ship.
She had a sudden flashback of trying to get back on board the FHew and a recollection of trying more than once but she had obviously given up at some point after all she wasn't on there now.
Someone probably Marie or Dr Doom (was that his name?) had poured her into here, where ever here was. Another moan croaked its way from her lips as she asked herself "What the hell was I drinking last night? Furniture polish?". What ever it had been it was strong enough to shake and rattle the nerves of her teeth and numb her brain cells to submission. With a whinge loud enough to wake the dead she turned over, buried her head in the pillows once more and fell into a deep sleep.
Ravenous hunger finally forced Tell out of her dark pit of a post drunken coma. She was very reluctant to open her eyes at first remembering the pain from earlier on. However she had been through worse in the past and after a hearty meal Tell knew she would soon be back to her normal self and no worse for wear.
Tell's eyes adjusted slowly to the low level lighting as she took in her surroundings. The room wasn't that bad, not overly big or fussy she thought but it was comfortable enough with subtle warm colours and designs that she quite liked. Pictures on the walls reflected the obvious tastes of the ones who owned the hotel, guest house, or what ever they called it because that's where she thought she was. Tell dragged herself out of bed and after closer inspection she found that a door led to a sonic shower which was just what she needed after having slept in her clothes all night. When she looked at herself in the mirror a flower and something trailing was stuck to her left ear. She took it off and threw it away.
Feeling much better and refreshed after her shower Tell noticed that a toothbrush and toothpaste had been supplied and again thanked Marie for finding them such a decent place to stay that seemed to cater for their needs. She honestly thought that the quartermaster would have found something much cheaper and briefly wondered where her shipmate was. Surely she would be awake by now.
Dressed and knives sheathed to her arms Tell decided to have a glass of water to soothe a parched and dry throat before leaving to satisfy her intense hunger. She wanted a good old fashioned fry up for breakfast with none of your Klingon muck thrown in. She let the water run cold in the basin before filling a glass and just she lifted it to her lips, the engineer suddenly felt the tiniest of vibrations before seeing the ripple affect it had in the remaining water. The glass slipped from her hand and shattered into pieces as the water quickly drained away like the colour from her face.
