Ro' collapsed into a chair and looked at the rest of his crew assembled in the conference/briefing room.
"ToH! There it is," he growled, repeating what they had all learned when Hope had woken. "The girl has chosen to be with her father. I have informed her that we will take her to an asteroid where she can be collected by the Borg."
“Tell,” Marie said, “It's time we tested that escape pod. We might need to do a bit of interior re-decorating as well.” She looked at Ro'. “I told you I will not abandon this child to her fate. I don't trust you, Klingon. You'll set her down on the asteroid and scarper. You don't have it in you to stand up to the Borg. You're fine when it's other Klingons you can brow-beat but the Borg? They're cold, ruthless killers. They don't understand about tIgh [honour] so you think it's fine for you to act dishonourably. I find that despicable.”
Ro' waited patiently for the rant to reach an end, "Are you done?"
"Are you done?" she retorted.
Ro' kept his gaze and voice level, "You are the best Quarter master I have had on this ship, bar none. In the last three years you have proven your worth again and again. And, in all that time, you still have not come to understand me. This is good. I still have some surprises left."
Ro' let his gaze pass over the rest of the crew, "I have given my word to the girl she will rejoin her father. This will happen. I did NOT give my word that she would join the Collective."
With a sudden sweep he pulled his d'k'tagh from his belt and buried it half way down the blade through the metal table top, "WE FIGHT!"
"According to the information Jared collected, the Borg cube is heavily damaged. It's sensors are suffering and it has lost it's tractor beam and much of it's weaponry. Most likely the Fairchild rammed her in a last effort. There are barely two dozen drones on board and they are not expecting resistance."
"When they arrive in the asteroid field we will be waiting for them, cloaked. A team will beam aboard to recover the girls father. We destroy the Scout, and take both people back to the Federation for surgical recovery."
Beq Ru'fimohp spoke, "Two dozen Borg means they out number us, two to one."
Ro' grinned, "Which means we will all have to shoot twice! Are there any questions or other astute observations people feel the need to share?"
Jason looked at Ro'. "I believe my expertise will be of use now sir."
Ro' acknowledged the offer, "And I intend to make use of it, Ensign."
Ro' stood, pulling his blade form the table and using it to point to each person in turn.
"Marie, Tell, get the child ready for a short stay on an asteroid. Tell, you will have to adjust a suit for her. Marie, find whatever supplies she will need for the wait."
"May'bel, you will be taking a small recovery team onto the scout,; no more than five people. Whoever you want."
May'Bel glanced around.
"Volunteers? Anyone not wanting to miss the fun?"
"Marla, Jason, Thor'nan, get a strategy together. We need to remain undetected and to destroy the scout once the father is off."
"Aye sir." Jason said as he was already running through what he knew on how to fight Borg.
Marla nodded. Remaining undetected really just meant she gets to do her one job on the ship of turning on the cloaking machine.
Thor'nan sighed.
"We won't be able to shoot all of them; we'll have to kill some of them with blades," he said.
"Be careful," Ro' cautioned. "I lost my last engineer in a hand fight with a drone. They are stronger than us, and while often slower, don't count on it."
"HIchop, Jared, find me a way to detain the Borg Drone that is her father. I need him docile, not dead."
Jared nodded and glanced over at Hichop, "I'm thinking Liquid Nitrogen. You?"
"The rest of you, man your stations. Not a word of our plan to the girl. She is a liability. Dismissed!
Marie went down to the hold where the girl was just rousing. She held out her hand to Hope. “Come with me, little one,” she said softly.
She took hold of Marie's hand easily now. Hope had no choice but to trust these strangers. She had surrendered to them now they were going to take her to her father. Trust was a big thing for her and she looked up at the quartermaster.
"Do you trust the Captain too, Marie? He's a bit like a grizzly bear but I think he's nice." she told her matter of factly.
“No, I don't trust him but he's the best hope you've got. If he says he'll stand and fight then he'll do so. Will we succeed in getting your father back...? Probably. But then what? The Queen will be even more angry with us and will send out a bigger ship.
Hope nodded it was the only thing she wanted to do was to be with her father he was all she had left.
“I think you're best chance is in an escape pod, not a suit. That way you can eat and drink. It might be a very quick battle but.... The HoD is right. I don't understand him. Honour dictates he try to save you but he wouldn't do this unless he has something up his sleeve. At least, I damned well hope he does! she added to herself. “Now you go try to get some sleep while Tell and I get things set up for you.”
Tell was already ahead of Marie and in the hold. Another bloody mess they had got themselves into she grumbled as she went through the suits trying to find one that could easily be adapted for the girl. She only hoped that Ro' knew what he was doing and she doubted that they would make it out of this one. How many times had she said that in the past and yet they had always managed to get out of it somehow by the scrape of their teeth. Suit, pod it didn't matter what.
