Ro' waited for everyone to gather. It was an odd group this morning, after a night on the town. Thor'nan and Marla seemed in good spirits, but HIchop and Marie were looking decidedly uncomfortable and May'bel, normally the most jubilant was in a dark mood indeed. Jared was his normal implacable self. Tell was also in a very dark mood, sitting next to Ro'.
On the other side sat a young human wearing Starfleet red uniform and ensign pin.
Marla just stared at the newcomer. Another human? This should be interesting...
"TargvaD wIHoHruplu' [Another lamb for the slaughter]." Mumbled Tell.
"Speak English," Ro' growled, reminding them all of the standing order on the ship.
"Where did you drag this one from?"
For once, a suitably caustic comment refused to come to Marie. She rubbed at her temple. It hurt but not as badly as she might have expected from the dedicated way she'd gone about emptying bottles of cheap wine. Images of that monster haunted her. At least the alcohol had driven them away but only for an all too short time.
Ro' stood up when everyone was in and the room fell silent.
"First matter of business," he began without preamble, "This is Ensign Jason Hawke. He is on loan to us from Starfleet, as they heard we were without a trained pilot. I am sure Marie will be glad to get out of the hot seat. This is part of a new joint initiative of the KDF and SF to create a combined Rapid Response Force with hybrid Klingon and Federation crew. Hawke is Starfleet, and outside the normal rank structure. No one is to kill him. He ranks equivalent to Ne' and will take your orders without question."
He glanced at the Human, "Did you have something you wanted to say?"
Jason nodded at the Captain. "Yes sir" Jason addressed the group. "I am here because you need a pilot and Starfleet has just begun to work out a joint SF KDF Response force, I am the first member. Now My speciality was anti-Borg tactics. Also if any of you have any problems with me feel free to come to me with it. That being said I will follow all orders given to me by any superior officer." Jason sat back in his chair and looked back at the captain.
Marla nodded. This will be very interesting indeed...
At least he was brief, Marie thought, thankfully. Maybe we can get this meeting over and I can go back to sleep. Wait...what did the Klingon say? I'm no longer the pilot. Well thank you God for that small mercy.
"He's keen Captain." Tell told Ro' "I'll give him that. Welcome aboard Ensign Hawk."
May'Bel watched him thoughtfully, guessing at his speed and strength, and wondering how easy he was to bait.
Ro' continued, "Second, important news from our XO. Tell?"
He sat indicating tell to take the floor.
She gave him scathing look that said 'why me and why not you?'. Tell was unused to speaking in front of them all and found the whole thing quite nerve racking. She drew herself up to her full height which wasn't much as she hadn't got the added inches her Klingon boots had given her. She was still dressed in the civvies clothes from when she had packed her bags and left the ship. She dared herself to look at each one in turn. They in turn waited and for what seemed an age to Tell, she finally spoke up after a slight cough.
Not wanting to start off negatively about 'her problems' Tell got straight to the point.
"I have found out that there is a Morgath Mercenary freighter that's shipping House Matlh goods and weapons to the Red Army Base, where ever that is." She told them. "The crew have told me they have only three more shipments to make until the base is fully equipped. They want to make some money by trying to get into the base and sell their goods. The only problem being they can't get past the blockade."
Wait for it...we're going to run it for them, Marie thought.
Ro' stood again, "We are going to follow Tell and the Morgathi ship to this location. Most of you will remember when we were arrested for illegal arms shipping on Ubatti. It seems these are the people who are actually responsible. I was also warned by the arms trader who we rescued that there was something going on and I needed to be careful. Bottom line, someone is trading on the name House Matlh and bringing it into disrepute. This needs to stop!"
"Marla, triple check the cloak. These people are in Klingon space so will be sued to cloaked ships. Marie, make sure all munitions are stocked, including for the mobile weapons platform we picked up on the dead world. Thor'nan, I want all weapons and defences at full capacity. Make sure of it. May'bel, Ensure the marines are ready for some fierce fighting. Jared, I want a way to track Tell when she is on that ship, even at warp. If things get hot I want to be able to pull her out of there. HIchop, while Tell is away, you are responsible for making hte engines hum. Jason, get familiar with our helm. I want to stick to that Morgathi like glue. Get to it, all of you!"
Jason nodded "Yes sir."
