Blood Reckoning – The funeral

A small hall ahd been converted into a funeral parlour. In the centre was Jare's body, preseved in Statis, and on display as per the custom of Marla's mother's people. The Klingons had tried to follow the information they could find, and had surrounded the body with greenery. Unfortunately, not having a good grasp of horticulture, it was as much weeds and sticks as flowers, but they had tried.
The Crew of the Fhew stood around the walls of the Hall lookign uncomfortable and a little confused. Klingons do not honour th body as the host of the spirit. Once a Klingon has died the body is jsut garbage to be disposed of as any other biomater. This habit of the Humans to hang on to the body seemed... unhygenic.
Marla stood over the casket looking down at her father. He seemed drawn and tired even in death. At least he had died in a fight. A stabbing, even if it was just by accident in a bar room brawl, was a warrior's death and he could rest in Sto Vo Kor. What was she supposed to be feeling now?
When her mother had died, she was just a newborn. She could not remember the funeral they had for her. The only thing Marla could remember is the grave a few meters away from the house, and her father often going out there to sit. She felt upset that she was not here to see her father fight his way into Sto Vo Kor, but she did not feel much more than that. In fact, she felt numb. Jare was her best friend for 30 years, and now he was gone.
Ro' stood with his head bowed as he had seen humans do. In truth he was trying hard not to fall asleep. The Marines were standing in a spread group exchaning glances. They were here because their superior was honouring a fallen family member. They didn't understand what this practice was, but they honoured Marla enoughto attend.
Tell stood motionless with her arms by her side, her head not bowed her eyes wide open unblinking. Her thoughts should have been with her friend but they were elsewhere, a million light years away trying to change something that couldn't be changed.
HIchop was playing with gadgets behind May'bel's back. He had brought a Federation Tricorder and was trying it out. The thing didn't seem to be working though. It was giving him some odd readings. He realised that the readings were that of poison in Jare's body. He couldn’t keep quite on this. Marla would want to know. He came forward and with Tricorder in hand rechecked his readings.
“Marla, there is something you need to know and it is better that I tell you now” He waited to see if Marla gave him permission since this was more a human funeral he thought it was respectful to do so. Marla looked up but said nothing so he continued “Your father, he was poisoned”
With that everyone in the room knew that this death had no honour.
Ro's head shot up. The rest of the Klingons were all now paying full attention, waiting to see what Marla would do or say.
Marla had to get over the initial shock before she was able to say anything, "Could you repeat that?"
Hichop repeated "Your father, he was poisoned. It would seem the fight was just a way of covering up the poison." Hiccup paused then said "I will do more tests and help you as I can."
Hichop knew Maria would want to seek out revenge and more knowledge about the poison was needed. He lent forward and forgetting it was a human funeral, took blood and tissue sample. " I will be in the medic bay when you are ready and when we restore your fathers honour we can feast get drunk and fight in his memory and journey on."
Ro' appeared at Marla's shoulder, "This is not right. For a Klingon to die like this would prevent him reaching Sto Vo Kor. A person who kills with poison is without honour. Then to cover it up, shows he is aware of the act. We will help you find the one who did this, Marla. Do you know anyone who may have hated your father?"
Marla spoke through clenched teeth. "Not right now, but I know how to find out."
"Find out who, and we get him."
He turned to the rest of his crew, "Marie, when she has a name, I want you to get amongst the merchants and find where he lives. I will go to the administration blocka nd get floor plans. Tell, you will find a way past any security systems. May'bel, you will deal with any personal guard that may be inside. HIchop, find out as much as you can about that poison. Jared... do something clever. PejaH! [Go all of you!]"
"I'll get started straight away; get into the faces of a few likely sources," Marie replied. "Marla, when you've got a name, send it to me over an encrypted line. Hichop, the same when you know what the poison was. Marla, we'll find the bastard; we'll restore your father's honour. This I promise you."
Tell was already ahead of him and knew what she needed she just had to go back to the FHew and build it. "Working on it" she told him and started to make her way back to the ship. There was that small smirk appearing at the corners of her mouth again as she thought of all the havoc she could cause. She would have everybody running in circles not knowing which way to go. The game is about to get started she told herself.
