Lest we forget... – Across the open ground

The run to the F’Hew took far too long for Marie's liking. Vien was doing her best – but the suit she was wearing had taken obvious battle damage and she was struggling to keep up. Marie tried to slow down but she could...she could ‘feel’ something urging her to use the suit’s full speed. She didn’t know how better to describe it - ‘feel’ would have to do.
Then they had to stop so that Varquis could join them. She was slower! She didn't even have the advantage of Vien's damaged suit. The break gave Vien a much needed chance to catch up but that ‘feeling’ grew stronger. Marie had to fight down the urge to open the throttle on the suit and give it its head.
Marla quickly saw that they were waiting on her, and ran as fast as she could to the ship. As soon as made it she collapsed, and decided that would be something to work on. She felt out of shape, and will not let herself be caught because she was slow.
With Vasquis opting to take her chances and go straight to the ship, Marie was able to concentrate on ensuring Vien was covered. The turrets still hadn't fired on them but Marie was taking no chances - Vien's suit looked like one good hit and it would fall apart. Eventually they made it to the ship and Marie tried to take off the suit.
It would not let her!
The voices were in full cry now, urging - no, ordering - her to keep the suit on. She tried to move her hands to the release levers but the servos in the suit resisted her. No, it wasn't the servos though they were playing their part. Her own mind was working against her. Conscious thought told her to get out of the thing immediately but her sub-conscious mind was giving instructions that to her muscles that forced her hands back and away.
Leah kept her eyes locked on the mechanical figure in front of her. There was a lot going on, and each sudden clack of turret fire was enough to get anyone off track, much less the dust and rocks each blast sent into the air.
Wiping her eyes just just kept moving but the path was anything but straight. If she could at least see the ship it would be something to at least judge progress, but for all Leah's senses could tell her they where running out into a vast nothingness of barren rock and dirt. There was something disturbing about the thoght of being cut down without ever knowing if the ship was a mere arm's reach away, which Leah immediatly pushed from her mind as she noticed once again she was falling back.
Back and away and her hands kept moving.... The HUD came up, zeroing in on the ship in front of Marie. Her fingers tightened around the trigger of the primary weapon. The voices commanded her to strike and strike quickly before the enemy could escape. The enemy? That was the F'Hew they were talking about. Marie wrenched control of her mind back from the abyss it was threatening to fall headlong into.
Vasquis stepped into her view and immediately the voices latched onto a new target. Crosshairs centered on the Klingon, aiming at her heart. It took all Marie had to resist. This can't go on. Marie focused on the HUD. Slowly - agonisingly slowly - its perspective changed until the feet of Marie's Nephilim were its target. She squeezed the trigger. Nothing happened, nor had she expected it to but the unexpected move gave the voices pause for thought. Never, she suspected, had anyone ordered a Nephilim to fire on itself.
Grabbing the hesitation with both hands she tore off the suit and threw herself free. Looking back, she saw the thing just standing there; waiting. It looked so inviting; it promised so much power, so much protection but she now knew it for a cursed blade.
It seemed an eternity but finally Leah figured she needed to find out exactly how far away she was. Taking a chance she picked up a small rock throwing it forward and directly ahead a few yards it promptly made a clinking sound and dropped. Leah didn't have much time and cursed as some dirt and rocks scattered where she had stood only moments before from another blast. Moving quickly she felt the hull, but felt blind as a bat while trying to figure out by the contour of the ship design where the access hatch was.
Marie saw Vien stumbling around. Two strides took her across to where the woman was flailing around blindly. She reached out and took hold of Vien’s arm to lead her towards the ship. Together they made it inside.
A faint rumbling whine began to grow underfoot.
On the Bridge the Beq on Sesnors turned to Hayley, "I am reading a huge Power spike from within the facility at about the same time the Automatic defences have switched off."
Leah dropped down at the navigator's station and after scanning the readout. "Still looks like we have a clear area for take off procedure, orbital route looks stable, wait something..."
"I am reading a Federation starship entering the system; Excelsior class..," Marie reported.
"The Hells..." Leah put in a few coordinates. "They are setting into an orbital pattern, going to be a tight fit if we try to slip past, especially with the narrow gap free of space junk up there."
"They're steering clear of the sentinels," Marie said. "If we go out the way we came in we can use our smaller size to our advantage."
