Alligences 1 – Wandering Aimlessly
by Sogh Marla Varquis
Marla had basically been ordered to take some leave time, but she really didn't want to leave the ship. She didn't want to go shopping, that was her father's half coming out. She also didn't want to go to a bar a drink, that was her mother's half. She had her too halves constantly fighting out who she was meant to be, but she had gotten used to it by now, and it didn't affect her. She just did things as they came to her. Playing her Concertina or reading a book would be the one thing that both sides of her agreed on, but that would require staying on the ship to do that, and she had been ordered to leave.
Marla figured there was one thing she could do, and that was go to the local restaurant and have something to eat. Nothing wrong with that. She found the closest one to her position, and walked in.
It was loud and the music was almost obnoxious, but she walked in anyway. She sat down at a nearby table, and waited for the waiter to show up.
Alejandro was running around everywhere like a chicken with his head cut off. He was the only one working tonight, and there were a lot of customers here. He noticed Marla sit down, and he walked over quickly.
"Sorry for the delay. What can I get you?"
"I would like a nice steak, medium rare, with whatever side you give me."
Alejandro nodded and walked off to put in the order for the meal.
Marla sat there thinking about the most random things while she was waiting, and after a few minutes Alejandro came back with the steak.
Alejandro turned to see two people walk in with aprons on. Finally! His replacements had come, and that meant he could take a break. He sat down in the seat across from Marla, and sighed as he put his head into his hands.
Marla looked up from her steak to see him sitting there. "Can I help you?" She said with a slight annoyance in her voice.
"No, I am fine." Finally the tone of her voice came to him. He jumped up. "I am so sorry. I have been working all night, and my mind is no longer working right. Please, forgive me."
Marla nodded.
Alejandro looked longingly at the seat, "Is it alright if I sit back down."
This was yet another case of her Human half and her Klingon half fighting it out inside of her. Her Klingon half wanted to yell at him, and say 'NO! This is my table, and you can find another one. Her Human half was saying, 'YES! Please sit down. You are really cute.' This was getting annoying finally she agreed on what to do.
Marla rolled her eyes, and said, "Fine. You can sit."
"Thank you, Ma'am"
Marla looked at him, "My name is not Ma'am, and I do not like to be called Ma'am. I am Marla. Ma'am makes me sound a bit too much like an elderly Human woman. I am not that."
"Sorry, Marla. So how are you enjoying your steak?"
Again her halves were battling it out. In the end her Human half won out. "It is good." She took another bite, and hoped he wouldn't talk to her again. She really did want to just enjoy her steak.
She should have known better. Her hopes were soon dashed. "So what brings you to my Restaurant?"
Marla took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a second. She opened her eyes, and spoke while trying to hide the Klingon temper that was rising up in her. She had been letting her Human half win out all night, but it looked like her Klingon half was about to take over.
"I do not know why we are here, and it is not really my place to know. I am not the Captain of the ship."
Alejandro nodded. In his mind he didn't want to make it seem awkward to have him just sitting there, but he had run out of things to say. He then decided to get up. "Then I will leave you to your steak. Hope you enjoy it."
Marla looked up and smiled, mostly because he was leaving, and she could enjoy it. "Thank you."
He walked away, and Marla went back to enjoying her meal.
