Training Room – A.R.K - An Act of Random Kindness
by Soghla' Terri (Tell) Hope & Ne' Michelle "Mike" Young
Tell lay on the floor up against the wall. When she opened one eye all she could see was white and for a moment she had difficulty remembering where she was.
Moving was too painful and breathing was much worse, she was in excruciating pain. All she wanted to do was sleep and go back to the safety of the darkness but it was no use the pain wouldn't let her.
Gentle even snoring filled the air but there was nothing gentle about the person who was making that sound. Tells memory came flooding back to her as she recalled the wedding, the perfect flat, so precise and ordered and everything in its place.
He had kissed her so aggressively that her lips began to bleed. Her so called lovely husband had suddenly turned into a monster who tore at her clothes and held her by such force that her skin bruised under his touch.
She tried to fight him off but he liked that and made it much worse for her. Tell wasn't strong enough and had neither the skills to defend herself properly or find an escape. She struggled to her feet and staggered to the bathroom and couldn't believe what she saw in the mirror.
Her face, once soft and beautiful, was now covered in purple and black patches. These bruises covered almost an entire side of her face, her left eye barely able to open.
Her jaw was slightly askew, and she could tell that something was off about it. It, too, was heavily bruised and rather painful to the touch. In that same moment as she reached up to touch her face, that several of her ribs on the right side were broken.
As she went to move her left arm across to cradle her chest, she realized that her arm was not responding the way that it should. She looked down at it. It was bent off at a funny angle and a patch of blood was localized in one area. She knew instantly that it was broken, badly.
The last thing she noticed was a rather deep gash across her neck. She realized that that alone could have killed her had it been much deeper than it was.
Tell grabbed a pristine white towel and used it to staunch some of the blood oozing from her neck and then she returned to the bedroom. She stood there looking at him lying there with only a sheet covering half of his body. Tell wished for a knife to plunge it into his sick heart. Then that would be the end of him but instead she gathered what precious things she could and left into the night.
She knew she had to get help but the area was new to Tell and finding a medical center in the middle of nowhere was unlikely. Her instinct was for survival and she had to get as far away from Gerrat as possible. If she survived this, then one day she would have her revenge and it was the thought of killing him that kept her going.
She had no way of telling how far she had walked or for how long and the need to rest for a little while was pulling her lower to the ground. There was a wooded area just over the road and if she could just get there and stop for a moment.
Half way across and moving at a snails pace she was caught in the headlights of a passing car and stood transfixed and hypnotised, like a frightened animal unable to move.
"Oh shit!!" Mike pulls the steering wheel to the right to avoid the figure standing in the middle of the road, skidding into the ditch and coming to an abrupt halt.
'What the hell?' Mike thinks as she steps out from her car, wondering who the hell could be in the middle of a country road at this time of night.
Mike approaches carefully. "Hello? Can I help you at all?"
Tell was on her knees with one arm wrapped around her ribs and the other hanging uselessly by her side. When she saw the headlights she couldn't move quick enough and expected death to come swiftly. A gasp escaped her swollen lips and a sob quickly followed. "I need, I need a Doctor" she moaned as she lowered her head closer to the road.
Mike kneels down beside her. "Well, you ran out in front of the right person then. Come on, lets get you some where a bit nicer and I can patch you up." Mike places a gentle arm around her.
An emotionally drained and traumatized Tell let herself be helped into the car where she sank into the seat. Grateful that she didn't have to walk any further. She winced as her rescuer fastened her in.
"Thanks" she murmured through cracked and swollen lips.
Mike continued down the road, avoiding the bumps as best as possible. Half and hour later the two of them arrived at a cottage surrounded by woods. Mike drives right up to the door and stops the car.
"This is were I'm staying. Lets get you inside and have a proper look at you." Mike unfastens the seat belt and assists Tell inside.
