Bug Hunt – Where am I?
by Soghla' Marie St. Helene
Marie was surprised to find herself on what was laughingly referred to as a biobed. Actually, to say ‘surprised’ would be to greatly underplay her reaction. She knew she had been in Sickbay but she also knew she had gone up to the Bridge. There she had...there she had plotted the course of a fleeing starship; one which was cloaked and giving out only the faintest of ion traces. She had worked out targeting co-ordinates; ones which proved to be deadly accurate.
How had she done that? She was a quartermaster; she didn’t know how to run Tactical. Not that well, anyway.
From there, though.... From there, nothing. And here she was, back on the biobed. Maybe it had all been a dream; maybe it was some delusion conjured up by something she’d breathed in back on that planet.
The klaxon wailed and ‘Ro’s voice came through, summoning all senior officers to the Bridge. Unfortunately, on the FHew, that included the quartermaster.
She thrust thoughts of nightmares and hallucinations aside as she pushed herself upright. Her head swam. She put her hand up to it and felt a tender spot on the back of her scalp. She was sure that had not been there before!
She swung her legs off the bed and steadied herself. When she was sure she was stable, she took a few tentative steps. Walking did not prove as bad as she’d thought it might be. Slowly she made her way out of Sickbay.
Climbing the ladder to the Bridge proved to be difficult. She felt distinctly giddy as she neared the top but she persevered. This was nothing compared to the bollocking she knew she’d get from ‘Ro if she was late.
