New Blood – If only I could forget
by Soghla' Marie St. Helene & Soghla' Terri (Tell) Hope
Marie rose and walked out into the corridor. She couldn't sleep; she hadn't been able to sleep properly since leaving the asteroid.
She found herself outside the door to Tell's quarters. She knocked.
Tell lay on her bed with her hands behind her head wondering what on earth she was going to do for the next seven days. I suppose I could get a shuttle and go for a ride somewhere take in the sights and be a culture vulture for once. Maybe, maybe not. She was humming a tune that she couldn't get out of her head, it would make up a good ballad or an instrumental and she knew what she would call it. 'Sweet Hope'
She closed her eyes and imagined the notes appearing on paper, rising and falling with seeetness and youth. Such had been Hope once. The girl had affected her more than she thought. Normally Tell was not one for getting so close to other people but she felt that a ballad would be a fitting epitaph for one so young. She sighed as the last of the notes eveaporated she would work on it later.
Tell heard the the rap on her door, she swung herself off her bed and called out. "Come in."
Though Hope had only stayed for a short while on the FHew, she had made an impact on all of the crew who had put their lives on the line for her. They were all having a bit of a tough time coming to terms with her loss and even the most hardened of hearts had been affected by her, Marie was no exeption. Tell stood looking at the Quartermasterl for a few moments before she began to talk.
"In my heart I know we couldn't do anything more for that poor girl but I keep berating myself that we didn't do enough. I want to rail at Ro' for not protecting her but I know there was nothing else he could do. In fact, he probably did more that most Klingon captains would."
"We tried our best" Tell replied quietly "We couldn't have done any more, we gave her a chance and thats all we could have done." Tell not one for showing affection squeezed Maries arm in comradeship.
"So there's only one thing for it. When we get to Qonos I'm going to go out and get good and drunk. Want to join me?"
"Now your talking, I thought you'd never ask." The friendly grasp turned into a comradely slap.
