Re-born – Talk
by Ensign Jason Hawk & Sogh Marla Varquis
Jason walked into the mess hall and sat down next to Marla. "Jason Hawk, nice to actually meet you. I've noticed you are pretty quiet is everything alright?"
Marla looked up, and glared at the newcomer. She did not invite him to sit with her. She looked back down at her food.
"Everything is fine. What did you want?"
"I wanted to know about Soghla' Jared. Can you tell me anything about him?"
Marla shook her head. "I know he is a Vetus, but I don't know much about him. I don't talk to much of the crew."
"I see, is there a reason for that or are you just a quiet person?" Jason asked trying to make polite conversation. Something he hadn't done since well before he was stationed to the FHew.
"No one talks to me."
"I'm talking to you. Am I no one? As a matter of fact I am no one but that doesn't really change the fact that at least one person is talking to you. Even if he is a nobody ensign."
Marla nodded. "I guess so. I don't know. The one person on the ship that would talk to me was Tell, and she's gotten busy. Then there was...." Marla went quiet. She still hadn't gotten over the fact that her father had been viciously murdered, and she hadn't talked about it to many people.
"Something wrong?" Jason asked her as she suddenly went silent.
Marla shook her head. She still didn't feel comfortable talking about it. Especially since she was still upset, and Klingons don't cry.
"Alright, alright you don't have to talk about it if you don't want too."
Marla took a deep breath. Should she tell him or not. Everyone else on the crew knew what happened, why shouldn't he.
"It's just about something that happened before you got aboard the ship. Something that everyone on the crew knows about already."
"Oh I see. Well then it's probably none of my business. Inn case you haven't noticed I'm not exactly well liked around here." Jason looked up and saw a few Klingons glaring at him.
"Neither am I actually. I am a half-breed. Half-human and half-Klingon. That is part of the reason why my father was murdered."
"I see....My brother was assimilated by the Borg then killed. He was the Helmsman of the USS Enterprise-E Lt Hawk. he was stationed aboard and died when the Borg went back in time to try to stop First contact with earth and the Vulcans."
"My father was murdered just before you came aboard. That is what I didn't want to talk about."
"I see. Well you don't have to if you don't want too. We've gotten off topic enough as it is."
"You'll probably hear it around the ship anyway. These people talk, and people over hear things."
Jason shrugged. "I try to mind my own business."
Marla nodded. "You'll hear about it at some point. I just don't feel comfortable about sharing it yet. Glad I am aboard a Klingon vessel. No annoying counselors to try to get me to talk."
"Counselors are a pain but useful sometimes."
Marla shook her head. "We don't need counselors. They are for the weak."
Jason shrugged. "You don't have to pretend to be strong. From what I have seen you Are strong."
"You need to be to survive on this ship."
"So I've noticed."
"So, I stay as strong as I can, but I also know to follow orders. I got on Ro's badside once. It ended well, but I don't want to do that again."
"I got thrown across the bridge when I got on his bad side."
"I almost lost my life, but I threw hot soup at him. I got promoted for it."
"I see, why did you through soup at him?"
"He was threatening me, and it was the closest thing I had. Took it right off the stove, and it leaked into his armor. It burned him real good. Then the ship was attacked, and we went to the bridge. I got there, and he promoted me."
"I see. I don't understand but I see.
"Klingon ship. You will get used to it. Just ignore Ro' when he is in one of his drunken moods. It will be safer for you."
"Does he make it a habit to be drunk on duty?"
"No, not that I have seen. Unless something happens when he is already drunk."
"I see, alright."
"So, is there anything else you might need to know?"
"No, I think that's everything."
Marla nodded. "Then I will see you later." Marla didn't say talk, because she didn't know how much they would talk again.
Jason drained the last of his drink and stood up. "Thanks for the company." He walked over and put his cup and plate away and walked out while ignoring glares from all sides.
