Allegiances 4 – When the elastic band snapped.
by Soghla' Terri (Tell) Hope
Suddenly after almost tearing her hair out of its roots, Tell had got warp drive back but not for long. "You have warp drive for five seconds maybe six but definitely not seven." she shouted.
Tell heard some muffled reply as the FHew went into warp and she counted the seconds. The engine almost tore her heart apart to give her those precious last few moments only just to die after.
Was she going to die? Not if she could help it and if Ensign Flybytheseatofhispants is as good as he says he is then today might be a good day to live.
The other Klingon with her in the engine room was very good and he didn't need telling what to do all the time. But they were fighting a losing battle. As quickly as they were repairing one thing something else would blow. A stray bolt narrowly missed taking her eye out. A sudden jolt sent her flying across the room to collide shoulder on with the bulkhead.
Fighting pain and dizziness she fought back the blackness that threatened to over come her.
Her new Klingon friend dragged her up to her feet. Tell had dislocated her shoulder and was in excruciating pain and swearing like a trooper. He reset her shoulder quickly and he didn't feel a thing. He let Tell slump and slide down the wall unconscious. She slipped into that no man's land of fighting demons and dragons. While the engineer fought her way back to consciousness her new friend was keeping the engine from exploding.
"Shut it down" she told him "As sparks and fire erupted everywhere. The whole ship was crying out in pain. Bulkheads were rippling under the strain "Dump the core, its our only chance."
Damn and blast it maybe Tell was wrong, she thought perhaps this was a good day to die or DIY or dye. Whatever!
