Allegiances 2 – Oh Father...
by Sogh Marla Varquis
Marla was sitting in her room when someone let her know that she had a call coming in from home. Marla smiled, and took a seat at the comm screen that she and Tell had built and put in the room. It was great to have such a special room, so many things that the other rooms did not have, because they were engineers, and could build it. Marla was at this moment alone in her room. Tell was rarely ever in their room, and Cha'a' was somewhere, Marla didn't really care, she was just glad to be alone, and could talk to her father in private.
Not a lot of people were happy with Jare Varquis. He had married a human, and had a child with her. This was not something a lot of Klingons enjoyed, and showed him quite often.
Just a moment after she sat down her father's face appeared on screen, and she smiled at him.
"Hello Father. It's great to see you again."
Her father's smiled back, which on a Klingon could be frightening, but Marla enjoyed it anyway.
"Marla, my daughter. How have you been keeping yourself?"
"Pretty good. Beat up the HoD, and am now Lagh."
"One of the better things about being Klingon. You get promoted for fighting. Your mother never quite understood that, but she knew that it would happen whether she understood it or not."
She saw his face sadden a little at the mention of her mother. It had been 30 years, but he really did love the Marla's mother, and he still missed her.
"It has been 30 years, and I am still getting people trying to fight me. I am not safe at my own home, and am attacked at least 3 times a week. Not everyday, but as long as I am home people aren't happy."
"It will get better, father. You have earned your honor, and they don't like it."
"It's not just because of your mother. They don't like you much either. The fact that you are half-human ,serving aboard a Klingon vessel, and sharing a room with a human is evidently destroying the honor that the Klingons have left."
"I don't listen to them, father. I have also earned my honor, and everything else. What they say means nothing to me."
Jare smiled at his only child.
"You are remarkable, Marla, and so much like your mother. It's amazing how even if you have never met her, how much you are like her."
"Yes, you keep telling me that."
"Well, I have run out of the time I have. Keep me informed on everything you can. Especially next time you get a promotion. I like feeling proud of my Half-Human daughter."
Her smile widened. Jare was the only one who could make the fact that she was Half-Human sound like it was a good thing. She was proud to have a father like him.
"I love you, Father."
"I love you too, Marla, my Daughter."
With that his face disappeared, and she was left with a huge grin on her face. This grin lasted an hour or so, until Tell walked in the room wondering what Marla had been up to.
