Marla was sitting in her room. Her brain was messing with her again. Her Human half did not like what the Klingon half wanted to do! Marla was getting sick and tired of it! She let out a loud scream. She couldn't take it anymore. She pulled out her d'k tahg, and went to stab herself. She was a half-breed, and not worthy of an honorable death. She went to stab herself when a mysterious Klingon appeared, and yelled, "mev! STOP!"

Marla jumped up into a fighting stance with her blade now facing the stranger.

"Who are you? How did you get in here?"

"I am Ahikar, and I was sent."

"Why?"

"What were you about to do?"

"What does it matter to you?"

"It's why I was sent! Answer me when I ask a question! What were you about to do?"

"I was about to stab myself in the chest? Why?"

"I was about to ask the same question. Why would you do such an dishonorable thing?"

"I am not fully Klingon, and do not deserve such honor. I am half-human, and while living on a fully Klingon ship I am not treated with the respect any full Klingon deserves. The only one who usually respects me is a human. I wish I had never been born."

"Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it."

Ahikar snapped his fingers together.

"There. Your wish has come true. You have never been born."

"What do you mean?"

"You said you wished you had never been born, and now you haven't."

"I don't believe you."

"Fine, come with me."

Marla followed closely behind him. As they passed people in the corridors it seemed that they were looking right through them.

"Can they not see us?"

"No they cannot. Remember, you have never been born. Ah, here is our first stop."

Marla noticed they were at the mess hall. They walked in, and noticed in the back corner Tell. She was just sitting there all alone.

"Why are we here?"

"We needed to check on the one person who ever truly treated you with respect. The human, Tell."

"Why?"

"She needs you. Look at her. She is there alone. No one on this ship even looks at her. She has no one to talk to. She is all alone now. She treats you with respect, because that is how you treat her. No one else on this ship treats her the way you do."

"If I'm not here, what will happen to her?"

"She will probably go on being alone. She'll get into fights with the rest of the crew..."

"She'll do that even if I was here!"

"With you here she doesn't do it as much. She needs a friend like you. Without you, it's a wonder she survived even this long."

"I still don't get it."

"You need something else? Fine, hold on!"

Ahikar snapped his fingers again, and suddenly they were no longer on the FHew. Marla instantly recognized the place. It was her home, but there was something different. She looked in the window, and saw her father. He looked different than she remembered. He was a sadder man.

Marla ran into the house.

"vav! vav, it's me!"

"He can't see you, Marla. Even if he did, he wouldn't know you. You were never born, remember?"

"What's wrong with him?"

"Because you weren't born, your mother did not die in childbirth. They lived on Earth happily for a few years, but moved back here. While here, your mother was murdered. Your fellow Klingons did not like the fact that your father had married a Human woman, but your father did not care. He loved your mother."

"But why is he so sad?"

"Because there is no joy in his life. Without your mother he was never happy again."

"But he was always happy."

"That's because he had you, but you were never born. So, he doesn't have you, and there is no more joy in his life."

Marla watched as her father picked up his d'k tahg, and sat down in the chair. He held it up to his chest.

Marla turned away.

"Stop! I change my mind. I wish I had been born."

"Just because you want your father to be happy?"

"Yes."

"That's not enough. Why did you want to kill yourself in the first place?"

"Because I am half-human, and my mind won't let me choose just one. It always has a huge argument before I can make any decision."

"Anybody's mind does that."

"Not as much as mine."

"No, probably not, but nobody else is like you. That is what makes you so important. You and Tell are friends, because neither of you fit in. Tell is human, but she acts slightly more Klingon than most humans do. If you ever need help, she is there for you. If you don't want her help, your father will help you. He loved her, not because of what she was, but who she was. It doesn't matter if you are Human, Klingon, or Both. You are here for a reason. Everyone touches someone's life somehow."

Instantly Marla was back sitting on her bed, Ahikar was gone, and she was still holding the d'k tahg in her hand. She started fiddling with it when Tell came in the room.

"Hello Marla."

"Hello Tell"

Marla smiled as she and her friend started talking.
